1. What are the Library hours?
The Library is opened Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon

2. Where is the Library located?
The Library is located at 1005 Hill Street on I-45 Frontage Road. Exit North off Hwy 79 East of the I-45 intersection onto the Frontage Road in front of the Weathervane Restaurant. The Library is at the top of the hill on the right.

3. What is the Library’s telephone number?
The Library’s telephone number is 903-322-4146.

4. What do I need to do to get a library card?
If you are a resident of Buffalo’s 75831 zip code, you may obtain a library card free of charge. You need to bring a valid photo ID and proof of your current Buffalo address. Acceptable forms of identification are a driver’s license, Texas Dept. of Public Safety ID, U.S. Passport, Resident Alien Registration Card or military, school or employee photo ID. Acceptable proof of address includes any of the above listed items, if address is included. A personalized check or bank statement, recent billing statements, voter’s registration, vehicle registration or liability insurance, official rent receipt, rental agreement or other housing contract may also be used for proof of address. If you are not a resident of Buffalo’s 75831 zip code you will be given a Temporary Card.

5. Can you get materials from other libraries?
Yes. It takes about two weeks.

6. Do you give out criss-cross directory information on the phone?
No, the library does not give out criss-cross directory information on the phone. Numerous Web Sites carry this kind of information, such as www.anywho.com, www.whowhere.lycos.com, www.whitepages.com and www.yp.yahoo.com for yellow pages information.

7. What are the loan periods of library materials and videos?
Books and audio cassettes/CDs are checked out for two weeks. Magazines, music CDs, CD-ROMs and videos/DVDs are checked out for two weeks.

8. How many times do you allow a patron to renew a book?
A patron can renew a book as many as two times provided that the book is not reserved to another patron.

9. Can I renew library materials on the Internet?
No.

10. Do you allow patrons to renew books on the phone?
Yes.

11. Do you give out NADA (blue book) care information?
No.

12. How much does the library charge for overdue materials?
For books and magazines, the library provides a three-day grace period. Materials not returned within the grace period are fined ten (10) cents per day. Fines begin with the due date. The maximum fine is $25.00 per book or magazine.

13. What will be the charge if I lost a book?
If a book is lost (or damaged beyond repair), the patron is charged the replacement cost plus a $5.00 processing fee. If the cost is unknown, the Librarian will access the appropriate amount.

14. What are the costs of other damaged materials?
Charges for other damaged materials are the cost to replace the item plus a $5.00 processing fee.

15. What are the community support groups of the Library?
The Library support group is “Friends of the Library”. The “Friends of the Library” supports and strengthens the library’s resources and services to the public and o the business community. It also promotes public recognition of the library and encourages Buffalo and the surrounding area citizens to support their library. The organization is separate from the library, but works cooperatively with the Library Director, staff and volunteers to achieve the library’s goals.

16. What electronic resources does the Library have?
Through the Texas State Library and Central Texas Library System, the library can access many databases that can help patrons with their personal, academic and professional research.

17. Does the Library have out of town newspapers?
Yes. Jewett Messenger and Palestine Herald.

18. How many magazine subscriptions does the Library have and does the Library keep back issues of newspapers and magazines?
The Library subscribes to three magazines and newspapers. The Library keeps four years back issues of local newspapers.

19. Does the Library take book donations?
Yes, the Library takes books, original videos and DVDs, books- on-tapes, interactive CD-ROMs and music CDs if they are in good condition. Since information, especially in the science disciplines, goes quickly out-of-date, the staff will determine the accuracy and timeliness of donated materials. Materials that are duplicates of what we have or are outdated will be donated to other libraries.

20. Does the Library use as “User ID” or “PIN”?
No.

21. What are costs of computer printouts, copy machine copies, faxes and computer disks? Computer printouts: 10 cents per page for black & white copies; no color copies.
Copy machine copies: 10 cents per page for black & white copies; no color copies.
Fax transmittals: Incoming - $1.00 per page; Outgoing, local - 50 cents per page, including cover page; Outgoing, long-distance (within the United States) - $1.00 for the first page and 50 cents for each additional page. No international faxes will be sent.
Computer disks (available at the front desk) $3.00 per disk.

22. What are the fees for other services?
Laminated pages are $2.00 per page.
